Chile celebrates its Bicentennial

This year 2010, Chile commemorates its Bicentennial: a celebration of 200 years living as a Republic. Two centuries since the beginning of the Independence process, launched by the realization of the First National Governing Broad, on September 18th, 1810.

The celebration includes several cultural activities, such as the traditional Army and Navy Parades, musical galas, marching and floats, and the famous "Ramadas", where people gather to share typical Chilean meals and delicious wines.

The Bicentennial is an important date, a reason to celebrate what we have achieved as a nation in these 200 years. It´s a great opportunity to be proud of who we are.

Viña San Pedro greets all Chileans in this Bicentennial. Viva Chile!

Winemaker of GatoNegro

Carlos Chandía is our winemaker with exclusive dedication to one of the largest and oldest San Pedro brands. He graduated as Agronomic Engineer at the Universidad Católica de Chile, coursed a specialization in Oenology and is a member of the Chilean Winemaking Agronomic Engineers Association. He firstly approached the wine industry, working at Viña Caliterra, as winemaking assistant in La Arboleda Winery. Then, he traveled to France, to the Burgundy, to work harvests in Chateau Peneau, Haux, a valuable opportunity which he seized to get to know the production of very different wines, such as the liquorish ones, and the Cremont, a typical sparkling wine from the South of France.

Since the year 2001, Carlos works as winemaker in Viña San Pedro, assuming several positions until being today the winemaker in charge of the team that creates our GatoNegro wines, the largest selling Chilean wine brand around the world.
