Vintage
2006
Varietals
65% Syrah and 35% Cabernet Sauvignon.
Origin
This wine is made from a selection of grapes stemming from the best Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon cuartels that Viña San Pedro owns in the Upper Cachapoal Valley, which are planted on a colluvial slopes, on the piedmont of the Andes Mountains. The vines are trellised to a vertical shoot position, with controlled drip irrigation.
Climate
The growing period 2005-2006 begun with a quite cold spring, followed by a slower blooming. This condition changed at the beginning of summer, which was dry, long and hot, due to the “La Niña” phenomenon, which even persisted through great part of the autumn. As a result, the grapes presented a good ripeness and retained a high acidity, what favoured obtaining very fruitful and fresh wines.
Harvest
The grapes were hand-picked, during the fourth week of April. Vineyard’s yield was 8 tons/ha.
Vinification
Cold-maceration during 7 days. An alcoholic fermentation is carried out with selected yeasts and controlled temperature between 28° and 29° C. The must undergoes 30 days of maceration inside 15,000 litres vats, specially designed to elaborate these wines. 100% of the mixture is kept in French oak barrels during 14 months.
