San Pedro measures Carbon Footprint– yet another step on the road to sustainability

CARBON

VSPTWG is pleased to share yet another step toward our goal of implementing more environmentally friendly production methods. This month we begin measuring our Carbon Footprint at our main facility in Molina. Through this initiative, we shall improve emissions management and energy efficiency. Viña San Pedro has a strong commitment to make wines more naturally, and thus through more friendly environmental practices more truly express the soils and climates of San Pedro wine country.

Beyond more genuine less-homogenized flavors, we believe these more holistic practices make our wines, our communities and thus our company stronger over the long term. The environment reflects everything that we do, wherever we produce grapes, and thus we are carefully applying more sustainable growing practices led by our viticulturists and winemakers across all of our farms.

We believe as a company that the wine-industry should play a leading role in the trend towards more sustainable production, and make taking care for our environment and its healthy future a top priority.

At San Pedro we do many things to make this commitment real.

We practice integrated crop and pest management and use biodegradable and/or recyclable bins and trellis.  We grow organically in Alto Cachapoal Valley, having been certified by BCS Öko Garantie. We are members of the Chilean wine-industry Clean Production Agreement since its inception. We are reforesting on various farms with Quillaye trees– a Chilean endangered specie. Our main farm is partially irrigated with water recuperated from the plants waste’s treatment facility. As part of the age-old winemaking process we have been composting with our organic wastes for a century and a half.
