In the ninth edition of the competition, the jury was made up of experts from different countries; Peter Richards, Master of Wine from the United Kingdom; Lisa Perrott—Brown, Master of Wine from Singapore; Mai Tjemsland, Master of Wine from Norway; Debra Meiburg, Master of Wine from Hong Kong; Marcelo Copello from Brazil; Bill St. John from the United States; Bengt-Göran Kronstam from Sweden; Patricio Tapia from Chile and Anthony Gismondi from Canada.

Castillo de Molina Sauvignon Blanc is sourced from the best vineyards Viña San Pedro currently owns in Elqui Valley, which present sandy silt loam soils with the presence of angular stones in all of their profile. The vineyard receives a strong marine influence, since it is located approximately 20 kilometers from the ocean in a straight line.

December, 2011.-

San Pedro counted 8 scores equal or higher than 90, among which the 2008 Kankana del Elqui stood out, obtaining 92points and being part of the Best Syrah and the Chosen from the North rankings.

“From the quarter N°10, at the Las Rojas vineyard (at the Elqui) (…) this wine follows the path of its origin and deepens in its character (…) A tremendous Syrah”, states Tapia on his review.

Also, the 2009 vintage of 1865 Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon obtained 92points. “A fresh, herbal wine, with very good acidity, a neat texture and great softness. A wine with character…”, held the critic.

On the other hand, the 2009 vintage of 1865 Single Vineyard Syrah, the 2011 Sauvignon Blanc from Leyda –the white in this line–, and the 2009 vintage of 1865 Limited Edition Syrah, were rated with 91points each. Besides, 2008 Tierras Moradas, the 2008 vintage of 1865 Limited Edition Blend and 2011 Castillo de Molina Sauvignon Blanc from Elqui were awarded with 90points. “Showing its origin with the clarity of a mirror (…) The heat of Pencahue expressing all its sun”, said Tapia in his guide regarding Tierras Moradas.

The ranking considered 1,459 companies present in the country, 24 of which obtained scores considered as a “robust reputation”. San Pedro is part of this group, since   it occupies the 12^th place, just like the previous year, but with a better score.

This survey gathered the opinion of over 5 thousand polled people and, together with giving a wide perspective about the state of the reputation of over 160 companies and institutions in Chile during 2011, it provides a view about their evolution during the last five years.

The study understands reputation as the level of attraction that people feel regarding an organization, based on what it communicates, the direct experience when the company interacts with its collaborators and what third parties, such as the media, say about it.

The 2011 Chile Global Pulse survey is carried out through an online survey (CAWI Methodology), using assisted questionnaires in a gender and age representative sample from the general public with access to the Internet. This sampling is carried out in the main cities of the country, representing national geographical distribution appropriately.

The level of attraction is expressed by the Pulse indicator, which is reflected on a standardized scale of 100 points. Unlike other studies, only those who directly know the company can evaluate it.

Once more, San Pedro is proud to be recognized for our reputation, what we communicate, for the way we work with our collaborators, clients and consumers, and for the quality of our wines!

- 1865 Limited Edition Blend 2007 from the Cachapoal Valley was highlighted as the Best Chilean Red Blend in the 100Best Wines of 2011 list from the Wine&Spirits magazine (it had obtained 94points in June). This list constitutes the publication’s 2012 Buying Guide, which is also a special issue celebrating this guide’s 25 Years. “This grows in the high Andean foothills of the Cachapoal River Valley, where the cooling effect of the mountains shapes a fresh, herbal blend of Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon”, describes the review.

- 1865 Single Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc 2010 from Leyda, was included in “The Enthusiast 100” list (it had obtained 91points in April), from the Wine Enthusiast magazine (which has additionally chosen San Pedro as New World Winery of the Year).

“In the four years that San Pedro has been making this Sauvignon Blanc, it has improved steadily”, said wine-writer Michael Schachner, concluding this is a “sheer, long and tangy (wine) on the finish; excellent Leyda Sauvignon Blanc”.

These rankings correspond to a selection of the best wines worldwide, highlighted by the expert tasters of these magazines along the year. “Wines which are not the ones we drink on a daily basis, nor do they represent a single annual splurge, but are the solid middle ground: weekend wines, restaurant purchases or special occasions –explains Wine Enthusiast– In short, wines we wish we could drink more often”.

The criteria for the selection extends far beyond the scores, considering: great quality-price ratio, availability, immediate drinkability and uniqueness, but also, both magazines consider a more indescribable factor, the “it” or “buzzy” factor some wines cause, due to the excitement they attract from both consumers and the industry, representing notable emerging or established trends.

Michael Schachner, the expert on Chilean wines of this prestigious publication, made a complete analysis of San Pedro’s evolution, declaring that “today’s San Pedro is not the same of our parents”, highlighting from the title down, that this winery has achieved a notable reinvention, a “renaissance”, and stands out currently for its commitment to talent and the exploration of new wine-regions.

On this path, Schachner stresses the engagement of Marco Puyo, “one of Chile’s most innovative and skilled winemakers” in charge of its high-end wines; the addition of a forward-thinking executive, as Javier Bitar, to run VSPT, and the assignment of other winemaking talents to each of its mayor wine lines, to improve consistency and quality.  This added to the fact of stepping from exclusively source its wines from its main vineyard in Curicó, to count with over 3,500acres along the country, from northern Elqui Valley, to southernmost Bío-Bío, thanks to an eagerness to explore new emergent winegrowing zones.

Additionally, the expert notes that this winery has entered into the field of organic wines and adopted green and sustainable viticulture and production practices.

“San Pedro’s reputation, now tied to high-end wines from all of Chile as much as GatoNegro, has never been stronger”, concludes Schachner, adding it is due to this reason he congratulates this winery as New World Winery of year 2011.

November 2^nd, 2011.- Viña San Pedro

These awards recognize the excellence in all levels of the industry, from producing Premium wines and spirits, to their commercialization. Therefore, this great acknowledgement highlights the importance that

San Pedro has achieved on the global wine-industry scenario, as well as the great progress it has managed to reach.

In August, the publication had released the 55 nominees’ list for the 13 categories of these awards.

San Pedro appeared then, competing within the classification of New World Winery with very important producers, such as the Argentinean Bodega Norton, the South African De Toren, the Canadian Mission Hill Family Estate and the Australian Penfolds.

This was San Pedro’s third consecutive nomination, as last year it was postulated for the same distinction, and the year before, 2009, it was the VSPT Wine Group, from which this winery is part. So: the third was the charm!!

With over 20 years of trajectory, the Wine Enthusiast Magazine has become one of the most respected and quoted specialized publications worldwide. The whole global wine-world follows and acknowledges its opinions, especially in regards to the scores and reviews included within its Buying Guide, where wines from all over the world are qualified.

It reaches 685,000 readers per issue.

Our guests were: Cris Couto, editor in chief of “Wine Style” magazine; Jorge Carrara, columnist of “Folha de Sao Paulo” newspaper and journalist specialized in wine, in addition to being a collaborator of “Prazeres da Mesa” magazine and a jury in several international wine competitions; Maurice Bibas, gastronomy and winemaking consultant, and professor of oenology; José María Santana, editor of “GOSTO” magazine and one of the two book authors of “Comida e Vinho – Harmonizaçao Essencial”; Cesar Adames, collaborator of “Prazeres da Mesa”, “Robb Report”, “Cozinha Profissional” magazines and of “Jornal Vinho & Cia.” website;And finally, Zoraida Lobato Viotti, editor/partner of “Market Press”, which is edited, among other publications, by “Vinho Magazine”, and producer of different events around wine like Expovinis, Wine Weekend, etc.

The perfect finale was a workshop dinner at Veronica Blackburn’s premises, where she cooked together with our guests and winemakers Ana María Cumsille, Marco Puyo and Ed Flaherty.

Our guests were really grateful for the invitation, highlighting the diversity of wineries within the group, as well as the professionalism they witnessed at each of them. A great week for our Brazilian friends!

The event took place at London’s Royal Opera House, and, in representation of San Pedro, it was attended by Miguel Rencoret, Chief Winemaker of the Organic and Varietal Lines, and Felipe Bravo, Submanager of Exports to Western Europe.

Rencoret received the award granted to our 2008 1865 Limited Edition Blend , from Cachapoal Valley, which obtained the Regional Trophy to the Best Chilean Red Blend over 10Pounds, filling us all with pride.

In previous editions of this prestigious competition, our Castillo de Molina Sauvignon Blanc from Elqui Valley was also awarded, for two consecutive years, the Regional Trophy to the best Chilean Sauvignon Blanc under 10Pounds.

The Decanter World Wine Awards have taken place since year 2004 and are considered the most prestigious and trustworthy international wine competition in the world, setting the guidelines of the best wines for oenophiles around the world year by year, since its results are published in special editions of Decanter magazine, which also carries out multiple related promotional activities throughout the year.

October, 2011.-

On a Chilean level, the results of two relevant wine competitions have just been presented to the public, in addition to several tasting panels in local and foreign specialized magazines which have highlighted our wines. Also, the most important competition in China, especially focused on Chinese consumer preferences, revealed its medal standings.

In the competition at the traditional Chilean fair Cata y Vino, Castillo de Molina in its 2011Elqui Sauvignon Blanc and 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon varieties, obtained a Gold Medal and a BEST VALUE distinction for each, in addition to two more Gold Medals for 2009 1865 Single Vineyard Malbec and 2008 1865 Limited Edition Syrah from Elqui Valley.

In turn, 2010 1865 Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon was granted a Gold Medal in the national competition Catad’Or W. Whereas, at the other side of the world, the 2011 China Wine Awards, granted a Gold Medal to our 2006 Cabo de Hornos.

And on an international level, in the United States, Lisa Carley, wine consultant and critic of The New York Examiner, published a series of reviews on Chilean wines in her weekly column during August, where she recommended her readers to taste our 2009 Castillo de Molina Pinot Noir, highlighting its great price-quality ratio. “… smooth and fruity, with minimal tannins and minimal oak. (…) solid and bright fruit flavors, good focus (meaning the flavors aren’t muddy), good acidity, long length and excellent balance”, the expert described.

Also, the September issue of CasaLife (luxury exclusive magazine of the Casa de Campo Resort&Residence, in La Romana, Dominican Republic, which is distributed among its 1,600 owners and 140thousand guests a year), published an article by expert John Martin about Chilean wine and a selection of what he qualified as the most outstanding wineries in the country, entitled “Nectar of the Americas”, where he described Viña San Pedro by saying: “This winery masters its red blends to perfection. 1865 Limited Edition Blend, 2006 Cabo de Hornos”. And he also published a picture of our Kankana del Elqui.

Certainly not a small accumulation of recognitions, that support the quality and consistency of San Pedro wines,

in Chile and around the world.
